Campaign Progress
Campaign Reaches $7.23 Million by End of June!

Simpson University publically announced the launch of its first capital campaign, to help fund continued expansion of the university, at an April 5 banquet.

The “Gateway to the Future” Capital Campaign kick-off banquet, held at the Holiday Inn, hosted over 350 community members and included a formal announcement that the university has received a total of $7.23 million in gifts and pledges to date. The capital campaign goal is $10 million, with an opportunity goal of $13 million.

New Financial Aid Program for California Residents
In an effort to provide additional California students with access to higher education, Simpson University is offering its California Aid Benefit program (CAB), which provides full tuition to students who receive Cal Grant and Pell Grant for the 2008-2009 school year.



Simpson Baseball Player is Headed to the Big Leauge
A Simpson University pitcher, Blake Cull, signed with the MLB Arizona Diamond Backs on Monday June 9th.

Blake finished 3-6 with a 5.71 ERA for the Red Hawks, but averaged 10.34 strikeouts per nine innings. Cull is a left-hander with size (6'5", 240lbs) and heat (88-92 mph).



Simpson University Receives $25,000 Grant for Baseball Stadium Construction
Simpson University received a $25,000 grant to support the construction of a baseball stadium on the Redding campus using components from the dismantled Vacaville stadium. The funding was provided by The California Endowment, a foundation whose mission is to award grants to organizations who promote fundamental improvements in the health status of Californians. The foundation’s vision includes a state where people have a strong sense of self-worth and practice healthy lifestyles.

Simpson University partnered with Add Some Color, Inc., a non-profit organization reaching young people through athletic endeavors, and Redding Youth Baseball through the City of Redding, to attain the funding.

"The Peoples Bishop" passes away
Augustus "Gus" B. Marwieh, '58, passed away on July 28, 2007, in Monrovia.
Bishop Marwieh was known for his school and mission work in his home country. He was brought to the United States in 1954 by Eliza Davis-George, an American missionary who founded four missions and 27 churches in Africa.
After earning a bachelor's degree in theology from Simpson, he earned a master's in religious education, then returned home in 1960 to serve his country.
 

The Clinton and Bernadine Sparks Scholarship
To mark their 50th wedding anniversary on Aug. 3, 2008, Dr. Clint and Bernadine Sparks made an initial gift toward endowing a Sparks Scholarship Fund to benefit students pursuing a degree in education at Simpson  University.
